From the Vaults

At one point in time, a friend and I started a Poem-A-Day exercise to try to keep in the practice of writing. It was always a great way to critique each other’s work, and, sometimes, something beautiful came from the effort. Here is a throwback from that exercise:

Counting breaths
like miles,
a constant
reminder
like a
heartbeat.
You,
out of touch
but
in my thoughts.
I count my
breath
like I
count the
miles.
One,
Breathe.
Two,
Breathe.

I can’t
always
breathe.
The longing
makes
my chest
ache.
Heart
breaking
and
rebuilding
over
and over
leaving a
strong scar
everytime.

Three,
Breathe.
Four,
Breathe.

I know
it gets
easier.
The tearing apart,
the mending.
