The Teachers

“The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind.”

Kahlil Gibran

I have been much blessed by many teachers in my life. Parents, family, friends, and foes, all of them have brought me lessons and have taught me truth.
Lately, I have been touched by so many messages of wisdom that I feel like a child learning new things everyday. With innocence, I have come to start seeing the beauty that exists in the world we encounter, even in the places of shadow.
The best part is that, once this beauty is revealed, it’s nearly impossible to close our eyes to it. It becomes a truth.
Then veils and masks are stripped away, leaving us raw, bare, and totally genuine. When this occurs, the teachers come in and all things become the lesson.

This Week

I had the gift of a friend’s wisdom
stirred into my coffee,
She taught me the frailty of Life.
I had a young woman’s story
remind me of impotence,
She taught me the power of Strength.
I had a jubilant man
hand me the secrets of magic,
He reminded me of the universe’s Potential.
I sat with the teacher of my heart
over fortune cookies and tea,
and I found I am made of Love.
